"How do you stay so positive?"
"Why do you think the world is sunshine & rainbows?"
"Why are you always smiling? Life isn't that great"
"Dude, wipe that *#$%^@! Smile off your face!"
These are questions & comments that I receive rather frequently.
They only make me happier :)
How, and why you ask? I'm here to answer those questions, and hopefully this little article will explain a bit more about me, and I hope it puts some positivity in your day.
The truth is, the world is a crazy place. We all know it. No matter who you are, or where you are, or what you've seen- You've dealt with anger, frustration, bitterness, sadness, loss, betrayal, loneliness, heartache, and hard times.
But that's okay. It's okay to feel these things and express them. We're all human. We're living life. In spite of the terrible things happening in the world, there's also: joy, laughter, accomplishment, success, friendship, love.
Life is like the Yin Yang.
Balanced. Good & Evil. Right & Wrong. Joy & Sorrow. Love & Hate. Each one balances the other. With the bad comes some good. With the good comes some bad. It's balanced. If we didn't feel these feelings, life would be neutral and... blah!
This can also go back to the glass half full/ empty principle.
It's all in your point of view:
I say you should ask yourself- "What do I want?"
So what about happiness? Can we really choose to be happy? Sometimes we can't really help what we feel.
To quote a favorite movie of mine:
"Maybe feelings are feelings because we can't control them"
It's true. We can't control them when they happen.
However, we can become aware of these feelings, and this can help guide us to inner peace & happiness.
Here's an example I like to use that happened to me:
I was driving around doing errands before the sun even came up. I had spent the previous night working all night on some very important projects. I needed to get supplies, get breakfast, get home & continue my work and hopefully take a nap somewhere in there. I had taken a wrong turn from the area I was unfamiliar with. I became very angry & frustrated. Thoughts poured in, such as "UGH! I'm so stupid" and "I can't believe I'm wasting all this time driving this way" and "I'm wasting so much gas", then I looked up to see beautiful orange & pink hues dancing in the sky- the sun was rising. I began to relax, thinking "I guess it's not so bad. If I hadn't have gotten turned around, I wouldn't have been able to see this amazing sunrise on the way back home. I began to smile.
Sure, I could have continued going on with my anger and sadness, worrying about the gas, the time, the money, the projects, and have a negative swirl around me. But why? What's the point? I didn't want to feel that way. It certainly didn't solve the problems at hand.
So I've just learned to roll with it.
Life is short, Life is full of Awesome. Like what? Look outside. Breathe the fresh air. I can give you a list right now of things to be happy for:
Everyone has worry and troubles. Everyone has struggle, even if they don't show it. You're not alone. You're on this Earth & not alone. It's about enjoying the exploration and the time you have here. Why waste it? Can you remember something that angered you 10 years ago? How about something that made you ecstatic? Which memory do you like better? Life is full of building memories. Embrace & love it, and enjoy the ride.
Another favorite from the profound Butters of South Park:
Being positive not only is good for you, it's good for the world around you. Making the world a better, more positive place by being positive. Think about it- negative energy rubs off. So does positive energy. It's like a chain reaction:
Imagine you're frustrated. A telemarketer calls and you yell at them. They hang up and get upset. They go home and complain to their wife. The wife gets frustrated and yells at the kids. The kids get upset and are mean to the kids down the street. So on, and so forth. Believe it or not, everything does have a butterfly effect, a chain reaction. Be a part of that of something good. Pay it forward.
Take a look at this beautiful animated short.
There's no words, but it speaks volumes about life:
To quote the top comments on this video: "Sums up life perfectly. We all know where we are going to end up, so just enjoy what time we have left and go out with a smile :) "
"Life is too short to be unhappy, you have to take the good with the bad, smile when you're sad, love what you've got and always remember what you had."
Those are my thoughts on being positive. I hope that this helped you in some way, perhaps a little motivation or a boost of happiness for your day. :)
