"Toonsters"- It's my reference to one of my favorite cartoon shows as a kid- "Tiny Toons"- always exclaimed by Buster Bunny (voiced by John Kassir- who's also the CryptKeeper, kiddies!). Just another catchphrase I so enjoy. Much like "Enjoy the Chaos" (inspired by Muse) and "Blue Skies" (in reference to aviation/skydiving).
Onto the updates! It's December- in which I promised myself I would do, at the very least, a monthly update on my artistic endeavors and random adventures. My blog articles are in the making to be reposted here! (Like my animation reviews on The Brave Little Toaster & The Secret World of Arietty) and my goal is to do such articles like that, hopefully on a monthly basis as well.
As you most likely know, I am a huge Muse fan! That means a lot of my fan art is geared toward Muse: I'm inspired by their songs- the sounds, the lyrics, their passion in their concerts, just everything!
Takeabow19 & I are currently in the works for Muse the Animated Series: Episode 2: Showbiz! (Matt with blue hair anyone?) We are due for an Early 2015 release date. We're hoping for it to be even better than the first one. Same Takeabow19 humor, fun new songs & voices! You'll even get to see the return of some of your favorite characters ( everyone except for Amy in this shot):
and of course, there will be Muse:
So I'm open & available for commissions as well- Animations, Illustrations, Designs, and so forth! Right now, one of my favorite commissions to work on is Illustrations- for kid's books, character designs, or fun prints! (check out my illustrations for samples of my work). One of the commissions that I'm working on is a TMNT digital art. I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Michelangelo is my favorite (Party Dude!). However, this work called for Raphael, the too-cool-for-you red dude. This was for a friend's son, who just loves TMNT and red. So I began work on an illustration!
First things first, when I start a design, the first two things I do are- RESEARCH and DRAW. Research is obviously important so you can study the content at hand- What's the colors, their anatomy, what attire are they wearing, what poses to they strike, what's their attitude like? Then I just draw off those. These are just a few sketches I started off with- I studied various poses Raphael would make & drew from those. From there, they chose a favorite pose and I ran with it. Next came a prototype and Pre-final:
I do the line work and make sure every detail is good to go- then comes coloring & shading!
This piece is just about finished, I first want to go back in and polish/cleanup and maybe add a few more details to make it more interesting, but that's pretty much how my illustration for 1 character process goes! I love making art.
Fan art is one of my favorites to create! Lately I've been sketching/drawing quite a bit of Avatar-related stuff (The Last Airbender & Legend of Korra, of course)- We're in the middle of Book 4 of Korra and it's so exciting! It's such a fun animation, with amazing, likeable characters and a great story. Not to mention, bending would be awesome!
As awesome as bending an element would be though, some of my favorite characters actually end up being Non-benders! Maybe it's because since they lack bending, they make up for it in awesomeness! (Complete with amazing fighting abilities and hilarious wits & one-liners) Like, Sokka, June, Asami, and my top favorites: Varrick & Zhu Li:
I've loved these 2 since they first showed up. "Operation Winged Freedom" was probably one of my favorite moments from them. I'm so glad the two of them are getting more screen time for Book 4, and we get to see more of Zhu Li's awesomeness! I totally called it that there was more to her than just "being an assistant"- it's always the quiet ones! I love her name, too (it always sounds like they're saying "Julie"). Also, she & Varrick are so much like me & my husband (we're like the gender-swapped version of those two- I'm the outgoing mad scientist and he's the quiet, thoughtful, calculating one.)
Art, Animation, and Imagination are fun things, aren't they? It gives creativity room to thrive & flourish!
Oh! One last thing, it's the annual Muse Christmas Competition! I try to enter every year. This year I'm determined to win. I've submitted my background and I'm SO proud of it. I'm waiting until after the contest deadline to share the full wallpaper- In the meantime here's a small snapshot from the Background with Chris Wolstenhome!
I put a lot of effort into the whole background from top to bottom, I'm really hoping that I win this year!
That's the updates for December!
Keep on the lookout for more frequent updates, articles, and fun things!
Blue Skies! Enjoy the Chaos & Stay TOONed!
